There are times that I forget entirely just how difficult it is to be a feminist in this world.
How hard the world really does make it for us.
And really what it comes down to is a disdain, a hatred, a social and cultural punishment against the word and the idea of "feminism" itself.
I say it loud and I say it proud. I wear it on my sleeve, and on my heart. I talk about it, I embrace it, I hear it, I yell it, I feel it. Its in my blood. Its me.
But in society, it is not accepted. And what social movement has been okay in the past? I can't think of a one. Social movements are always punished and berated and society finds new ways to force it down. They get twisted and turned into something ugly that is no longer acceptable in society. The same is true of being a feminist. Every stereotype and nasty joke you've ever heard - apply here.

yeah- here's the deal about feminism- i can't say that i am for it in it's current incarnation. i don't like 'ists' or 'isms' very much anyway- cause i hate labels. here's a thought- why not pay everyone the same price and treat everyone with basic human dignity? oh right. religion and supremacy groups won't let that happen.
i just doubt that with all of the setbacks made in across the board civil liberties that the steinham group is going to make much of a difference. this country is divided more ways than sunday (i have no idea what that means. i am tired) and things are going to get worse before they get better.
that's also why you can't have a 'dyke' shirt :) feminists are trying to put forth a kinder, gentler, more feminine look about them. :) i am not a pink kinda gal either.
